If you’re serious about learning how to play guitar, he’s your guy. I started with Maestro Álvaro online after I had tried two other guitar teachers. I worked with two other teachers for 5 weeks, but I still felt like I was learning nothing. They spoke in musical terms I wasn’t familiar with, so I just went along. After just one session with the Maestro I gained more knowledge and confidence on the guitar than having two other teachers. He got me at a stage where I couldn’t even hold the guitar right. Now I’m playing full pieces, and feeling very confident on the guitar. He’s main focus with me is technique, and building confidence on the guitar. He does give challenging music pieces and holds you to a standard. A great personality, reliable, patient, an all round great guy.

My name is Samuel Elkuch. I‘m from Switzerland and i‘m a student of Alvaro. In the beginning i was pretty much a guitar beginner who started out with classical guitar. I always loved the sound of flamenco music and i was so curious about the techniques and the different flamenco styles. So i told myself to study flamenco music. For that i needed a great teacher who i can work with for a long time. Fortunately i found Alvaro, i was immediately hooked because i was so impressed with his guitar skills and he explained everything so good and clear. After about 2 months i was already able to play some cool falsetas and solea pieces to my family and friends. The highlights of my weeks are definately the flamenco lessons with alvaro because there is something new and exciting every week! I have known Alvaro for a few years now, first taking a few daily lessons while he was on tour in Canada, then (nominally) weekly via Skype, interspersed with a couple of weeks of daily lessons in Madrid. His approach for me is the traditional listen-to-learn method somewhat adapted for a student from outside the culture with some classical guitar training. The focus is on specific falsetas with some technical and (especially) melodic/rhythmic ideas. I have found him a patient, generous teacher willing to help me work both on the things I want to and the problems I don’t see.

What I liked about your masterclass was the way that you told us about the origin and culture of flamenco society at first. That each city has it's own color and smell in flamenco style and the main part is south of Spain. And you made an effort to teach us and help us to understand the rhythm.
